A Bank Manager On Your Side

Obtaining the best from your Bank

I am Mike Cole and started Banking Consultancy Services to assist businesses to improve their relationships with their Bankers and increase the likelihood of obtaining funding.

With 35 years of banking experience dealing with all sizes of business from start-ups to Mid-Corporates I offer a huge knowledge of how to present your case to a Bank to ensure success.

Your working relationship with your Bank is one of the most vital tools for your business and a professional and well structured approach to them will maximise your credibility and vastly improve the chances of obtaining or keeping their support.

Services

I offer a flexible and cost efficient modular service to meet a range of budgets.

Banking Reviews

  • Whilst I believe the preferred option for any business is to stay with their existing bank if you have a good track record with them, as with any supplier it is important to know that you are getting the best deal, especially as we have in some instances seen Banks imposing interest rate rises.
  • Regular reviews – usually annually and preferably in advance of the lending review (where applicable) will ensure that you are getting the best option in terms of
    • Interest rates
    • Charges
    • Covenants and terms and conditions

Lending Propositions

I offer a range of options from an inexpensive ‘sanity check’ of your business idea to full business plans prepared specifically for a Bank.

Options include:

Analysis

  • An overall analysis of your proposition covering the main areas which will be required for a business plan to enable you to prepare the plan yourself

Structuring

  • Success or failure of a request for funding often depends on the mix of funding sources
  • I can advise on the optimum mix of sources to maximise the chances of success e.g.
    • overdraft; loan; invoice finance; asset finance; Enterprise Finance Guarantee Scheme; trade finance
    • internal sources – e.g. using your terms of trade to generate funding

Business plans

  • either preparation of a plan from scratch or ‘tweaking’ an existing plan prepared by you; again, a variety of options to suit budgets

Placement

  • discussions with Banks, either directly or by giving advice to you, to obtain sanction
  • advice on terms likely to be applied and negotiating tools available to you

Ongoing Monitoring

  • ongoing analysis of management figures prior to submission to the Bank and to advise the business on areas for concern or potential improvement to enable an action plan to be part of the ‘pack’ supplied to the Bank
  • regular flow of accurate information gives considerable credibility to a relationship with the Bank and maximises the chance of further funding should it be required.
